MONAGHAN UNITED 0 BRAY WANDERERS 1

The Seagulls made hard work of their three points in Monaghan, despite playing against ten men for the final twenty minutes.

The visitors had the lion's share of the possession throughout, but couldn't find their way to the target most of the time.

And a stubborn home team tested Darren Quigley a number of times, though the threat posed by Jordan Keegan while playing as a free winger on the right during the first period seemed to evaporate when he switched wings after the break.

But once Keith Quinn had been dismissed by referee Rob Rogers (and followed in short order by Monaghan manager Roddy Collins) for his sliding two-footed challenge on Dane Massey, it seemed only a matter of time before Bray made the breakthrough.

They duly did, though it took until four minutes from time, and Monaghan played if anything better as ten men than they had as eleven.

Eventually, an Adam Hanlon corner, played short to Kevin Knight, was delivered to the head of Bray marksman Jason Byrne, who duly headed powerfully home past Micheál Schlingermann in the Monaghan goal.

The visitors had a last-ditch opportunity to double their tally, but this time Hanlon's flag-kick was put out for a throw, and the attack fizzled out.
