EA Sports Cup QF draw details

The draw for the Quarter-Finals of the 2012 EA SPORTS Cup competition will
be made live on MNS (RTE TWO 7-8 pm) on Monday, 7th May.

Clubs and numbers are as follows:

1 – Bray Wanderers

2 – Derry City

3 – Drogheda United

4 – Dundalk

5 – Limerick

6 – St. Patrick’s Athletic

7 – Shamrock Rovers

8 – Sligo Rovers

Ties to be played Monday/Tuesday, 25 th /26 th June (which are rest days
during Euro 2012 prior to the semi-final matches).

Wanderers Weekly Betting Tips: Shelbourne away

Having only just lost to Sligo last Friday night one can assume that confidence is high within the Bray camp. The Wanderers did beat Shels 2-1 on Monday evening in the EA Sports Cup 2nd round but many expect a different game come Friday night with both sides fielding completely different sides to those that played on Monday.

The Bray Wanderers management have no new injury worries ahead of the teams second trip to Tolka Park in four days. The ony absentees will be long term injury victims Shane O'Connor (groin) and Stephen Brennan (hamstring). Dane Massey has served his three match ban following his sending off against Drgheda Utd, and comes back into the squad. Also added to last weeks squad is the veteran midfielder Colm Tresson.

Following his sides impressive performance against League leaders Sligo Rvs. last week the Seagulls Director of Football Pat Devlin speaking to www.braywanderers.ie said he was pleased with the performance, his side he said just needed to keep it going for the full 90 minutes. He added " We are making progress and we just need to just keep it up for 90 minutes and if we can do that we will be grand".

Speaking about his sides second trip to Tolka Park in a week, having beaten Shelbourne on Monday night in the E.A, Sports Cup Devlin said " This will be totally different, I think you will see two totally different squads, but we know what to expect and its all to play for, it could go either way, I'm looking forward to it".

Having played an energy sapping match on Friday night Bray will head into this EA Sports Cup game with what many expect to be a changed side. Many of the players that played on Friday night are expected to rested.This is because the Wanderers again travel to Tolka park next Friday for a league game which has to take importance over an EA Cup game in all fairness. With the team expected to be much changed its hard to predict the result and its hard to bet on any part of the game but sure we'll give it a try.

Bray's mixed fortunes and Sligo's remarkable start to the season continued in the Carlisle Grounds.

Starting the same XI that opened in Cork the previous week, Pat Devlin's flexible format came close to gaining a share of the points for the Seagulls, but not close enough.

Raffaele Cretaro opened the scoring nine minutes in when he was left unmarked just past the posts for Danny North's cross from the right, and headed beyond Darren Quigley.

Kieran "Marty" Waters levelled matters ten minutes later when, after a through ball had seemed safely at Sligo feet, Gavin Peers underhit his backpass and the Bray youngster pounced to race forward and side-foot under the diving Gary Rogers.

But Sligo's lead was restored four minutes after the re-start, when Bray skipper Danny O'Connor fouled Romuald Boco on the edge of the area. Joseph Ndo's low shot into the centre of the area was met by North, who side-footed past the diving Quigley.

Bray tried hard, re-forming with four and sometimes five up front, and peppering the Sligo defence with attacks, but to no avail.

Other results mean that the Premier table now sports the unusual pairing of Sligo at the top, followed (on goal difference) by Drogheda United.

Team news for visit of Sligo Rovers

Central defender Adam Mitchell who received ten stitches in a head wound following the Drogheda Utd game at the Carlisle Grounds will be absent for the second week in succession when Bray take on Sligo Rovers at the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night. Also absent will be defenders Shane O'Connor (groin), and Dane Massey who serves the second of his three match ban following his sending off against Drogheda Utd. Bray will work from the same squad that drew in Cork last Friday night coming from a goal down to earn a deserved point with a late Jason Byrne goal.

Speaking during the week to www.braywanderers.ie Bray's Director of Football Pat Devlin said he was pleased that his side played so well in Cork and he felt they were unlucky not to have collected all three points.He said " What was pleasing was the performances of individuals as well as the overall team performance". Looking ahead to the visit of Sligo Rovers to the Carlisle Grounds Devlin said "We have a tough week ahead, playing three games in ten days, it will be a real test of our squad". He added "Sligo are always a tough side to beat as our history against them will show,I'll be happy if we can avoid any more injuries, and if the players continue to give of their best on the pitch,well that's all I can ask for".
